The Menomonie Optimist Club has named Kyle Irwin, a senior at Colfax High School, as the December Youth of the Month. Optimists have been honoring outstanding and talented Dunn County youth in this manner for over 30 years.
Kyle Irwin is a top academic student at Colfax High School, with a 4.0 grade point average over his four years there. He has taken eight Advanced Placement or college-level courses as well, with a special focus in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math areas. A member of the National Honor Society, Kyle is also president of the Student Council. His athletic pursuits include the basketball and golf teams. Kyle gives back to his community through helping with youth basketball tournaments and summer camps, and community fundraisers. Kyle plans to enroll at either the University of Minnesota or the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fall to major in computer science. He is the son of Dave and Kris Irwin.
In addition to recognizing outstanding youth as Youth of the Month, the Menomonie Optimist Club also has worked with the DNR on the development of Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area, provides dictionaries to every third grader in Dunn County, and sponsors the Menomin Meander, a family friendly bike ride, and other activities for the community.
