COLFAX — It’s always nice to head into playoffs with a win under your belt and the Colfax baseball team did just that with an 8-3 home win over the Elmwood/Plum City Wolves last Tuesday, May 24.
The win gave the Vikings a 5-9 record in Dunn-St. Croix Conference play and 6-12 overall as they went into the regional game against another conference foe, Spring Valley two days later.
The Vikings used three pitchers in the game who combined to throw a three hitter.
Colfax scored early as they came up with three runs in the first, two in the second and added single runs in the fourth and fifth for a 7-0 advantage.
The Wolves started to howl a bit with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh but the Vikings tacked on a sixth inning run to quiet the Wolves down.
Dylyn Hiitola slammed a pair of doubles and knocked in four runs while Kade Anderson, Mitch Medin, Bryce Sikora, Jamison Flatland and Mason Yarrington all picked up a hit.
Jamison Flatland earned the win, pitching three innings, not allowing a hit or run with six strikeouts and two walks. Medin went 2 2/3 innings and gave up a run on one hit with three Ks and two base on balls while Sikora threw 1 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on one hit, two strikeouts and three free passes.
