SPRING VALLEY — It was probably their best game of the year, according to Colfax head coach Kirk Secraw, but his team still fell short in a 3-0 loss at Spring Valley May 26. The game was a first round WIAA Division 3 regional contest, ending the season for the Vikings as they finished with a 6-12 record.
The teams squared off twice during the regular season with Spring Valley winning both contests. The Vikings outhit the Cardinals 7-3 in this go-around but didn’t string enough hits together to score any runs.
Spring Valley put two runs on the board in the second inning and another in the third then rode the arm of their ace, Connor Ducklow to hold on for the win.
Dylyn Hiitola had a phenomenal game at the plate for the Vikings, going 3-for-3 and Bryce Sikora was 2-for-2 while Mitch Medin and Mason Yarrington each had a hit for the team.
Flatland pitched six strong innings and gave up just three hits and one walk while whiffing five Cardinals. Only one of the runs was earned.
Three players concluded their high school careers including Flatland, Sikora and Austin Swanson.
“Our kids learned a lot and hopefully we can build on this for next season,” Secraw said. “Bryce and Jamison will be hard to replace. Both had a lot of varsity experience,” he added.
