BLACK RIVER FALLS — The Colfax/Elk Mound boys’ golf season came to a conclusion last week.
After shooting a 371 at Skyline Golf Course in Black River Falls just six days earlier, the Colfax/Elk Mound boys’ squad struggled on the same course last Tuesday, May 24 finishing last in the nine-team WIAA Division 2 Black River Falls Boys’ Golf Regional meet with a score of 409.
The C/EM team struggled to find its rhythm throughout the 18-hole tournament.
Sophomore Jace Acker and senior Luke Blanchard were the only Colfax/Elk Mound golfers to break 100 on the day. Acker finished 31st with a 98 while Blanchard was just a stroke back shooting a 99 for 32nd place.
Zane Brice shot a 101 to take 35th, Christian Ebert finished with an 111 for 46th place and Riley Krall carded an 118 to place 49th. All three are sophomores.
Junior Josh Brickner of McDonell Catholic/Regis was the regional tournament medalist with a six-over-par 78 and Black River Falls’ Mike Antonelli finished second with an 81 and the pair led their respective teams to the top two spots. McDonell Catholic/Regis won the meet with a 333 and host Black River Falls came in second with a 355.
Those two teams along with Bloomer who finished third with a 367 and fourth-place Gale Ettrick-Trempealeau with a 369, only a stroke ahead of fifth-place Arcadia, moved on to the sectional meet at the Bass Lake Golf Course in Antigo.
Dunn-St. Croix champion Durand finished sixth with a 374 followed by Altoona at 388, Stanley-Boyd with a 402 and Colfax/Elk Mound at 409.
The top four individuals from non-qualifying teams, Arcadia’s Cole Sobotta (87) and Durand’s Logan Weissinger (87), Shane Prissel (88) and Simon Bauer (89), also advanced to sectional play.
Blanchard was the only senior on this year’s Colfax/Elk Mound team.
