The Colfax/Elk Mound boys’ golf team capped the Dunn-St. Croix season with a third-place finish in the 18-hole conference tournament held Monday, May 16 at the Spring Valley Golf Course.
It was the eighth time in ten conference meets this year that the local linksmen finished third among the five-school D-SC grouping.
The squad then closed out the regular season partaking in the 2022 Black River Falls’ Skyline Invitational which was held last Wednesday, May 18 where it came in seventh out of ten teams at the 18-hole meet.
Colfax/Elk Mound was scheduled to return to Black River Falls and Skyline Golf Course yesterday, Tuesday, May 24, for the WIAA Division 2 regional golf tournament. The top four teams along with the top four individuals, who are not members of a qualifying team, will advance to the sectional meet set for either May 31 or June 1 at the Bass Lake Golf Course in Antigo.
A pair of its golfers carded sub-100 performances at the 2022 Dunn-St. Croix boys’ golf tournament held at the Spring Valley Golf Course May 16 to help lead the Colfax/Elk Mound squad to a third-place finish.
Sophomores Christian Ebert and Jace Acker turned in scores of 94 and a 95, respectively, in the 18-hole tournament to pace the C/EM boys.
Fellow sophomore Zane Brice and senior Luke Blanchard each shot a 100 while Riley Krall rounded out the varsity scoring with a 141.
When the top four individual scores were added together it gave Colfax/Elk Mound a team tally of 389 which put it in third place just five strokes behind runner-up Glenwood City.
Durand, led by medalist Logan Weissinger’s 82 and an 83 by Simon Bauer, took first place with a 354.
Mondovi was fourth with a 419 and host Spring Valley came in fifth with a 436.
That was also the final order in the race for the overall conference championship.
With its victory in the conference tournament, Durand won its ninth straight D-SC meet and second consecutive Dunn-St. Croix Conference Championship. The Panthers finished with 49 points in the final team standings. Points are awarded based on a team’s finish in each meet with a first-place finish earning five points, second-place four, third gets three points, a fourth place is awarded two and fifth receives a point.
Glenwood City tallied 39.5 points for second, Colfax finished in third with 31.5 points followed by Mondovi with 16.5 and Spring Valley had 13.5.
A pair of Colfax/Elk Mound sophomores also received individual accolades as they earned all-conference distinction for their consistent play throughout the season. Jace Acker played his way into a spot on the first team after accumulating 57 points while Zane Brice tallied 49 to qualify for second team honors. Similar to the team scoring system, the top ten individuals in each meet were awarded points based on their finish with ten points going to the medalist all the way down to a single point for tenth. Those values were doubled for last Tuesday’s conference tournament.
BRF Skyline Invitational
Taking an opportunity to play on the course that will host the regional tournament, Colfax/Elk Mound competed in the Black River Falls Skyline Invitational May 18.
Colfax/Elk Mound shot a 371 in the 18-hole tournament to finish seventh out of ten teams.
Luke Blanchard and Zane Brice topped the locals’ scores as they finished in a six-way tie for 21st place with scores of 91.
Jace Acker was two strokes back with a 93, Christian Ebert carded a 96 and Riley Krall shot a 107.
Host Black River Falls won the meet with a 324. Cochrane-Fountain City scored a 344 to take second while Arcadia and Durand tied for third after each finished with a 346.
