COLFAX — Under near perfect weather conditions with sunny skies, the temperature in the low 70s and very little wind, the Colfax track and field teams hosted another invitational on Tuesday, May 10.
With 23 schools represented in the meet, the Colfax girls had a great showing as they placed third with 59 points, while the boys placed 11th with 35 points. Top eight places scored team points for the meet. Several of the teams were Division 2 teams, making for some strong competition.
The highlight of the invitational for Colfax was sophomore Jeanette Hydukovich setting the school record in the girls’ shot put by throwing an incredible 37 feet, 5 3/4 inches. Hydukovich now ranks in the top ten Division 3 high school female shot put throwers in Wisconsin. She also added a first in the shot put to her day’s achievements.
The ladies 4x800m relay consisting of Madison Barstad, Jasmine Best, Kaysen Goodell and Hannah Peterson, took first while Molly Heidorn also won the 1600m run. Goodell was fifth in the 1600 and Best was sixth, while Heidorn took second in the 3200m run with Best eighth in the same race. Kennedy Shane earned a seventh place in the discus and eighth in shot put.
Nathan Hydukovich continued his impressive senior season by placing second in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Alex Swanson was third in the discus throw, Nick Jensen was sixth in the discus, Thomas Drees finished fourth in the shot put and Ryan Albricht added a sixth in the 800m run and a seventh in the 400m dash.
Ladysmith won the girls’ competition with 86 points while Bloomer came in second with 60.5 just a point and a half ahead of Colfax. Grantsburg edged out Northwestern, 95 to 92, to claim the boys’ crown while Shell Lake was third with 69 points.
On a special note, the event featured the “Race for a Cure” fund raiser which raised almost $800 towards Breast Cancer research.
Colfax was back in action at the Dunn-St. Croix Conference meet yesterday, Tuesday, May 17th, in Glenwood City. The Vikings will then compete in the WIAA Division 3 regional at Durand next Monday, May 23 with the top four place winners in each event advancing to the sectional meet which will be held in Colfax on Thursday, May 26.
