The Colfax/Elk Mound boys’ golf team has shown continued improvement as this season has progressed.
Playing in a trio of Dunn-St. Croix meets last week, the C/EM golfers registered their first second-place finish of the year along with two more third-place showings.
Hosting a 5-team conference meet at Whitetail last Monday, May 2, Colfax/Elk Mound tied Glenwood City for second as each squad tallied a 197.
Three days later on the Spring Valley Golf Course, shaved four strokes off its team total to finish with a 193 to take third. Then the following day, the locals turned in their best score of the season to date as they shot for a combined score of 190 at the Glen Hill Golf Course near Glenwood City to once again finish in third.
Colfax/Elk Mound capped a busy week at the 18-hole Stanley-Boyd Invitational held Saturday, May 7 at Whispering Pines near Cadott. It was the team’s third straight day of competition and it finished sixth in the 14-team tournament.
With just two nine-hole meets and the 18-hole conference tournament remaining on its regular-season schedule, Colfax/Elk Mound has solidified its third place position thanks to the latest three outcomes. C/EM now has 21.5 points in the D-SC points standings with defending conference champion Durand comfortably in front with 34 points, Glenwood City is second with 28.5, Mondovi sits third with 12.5and Spring Valley has 8.5.
Colfax/Elk Mound hit the links in Durand yesterday (Tuesday, May 10) and will once again hosts it fellow conference schools at Whitetail Thursday. The 18-hole conference tournament will be held next Monday, May 16 in Spring Valley.
Whitetail
A trio of local linksmen shot under 50 when it hosted a nine-hole Dunn-St. Croix conference meet at Whitetail Monday, May 2.
Sophomore Zane Brice finished with a 47 to lead Colfax/Elk Mound while senior Luke Blanchard tallied a 48 and sophomore Jace Acker carded a 49.
Two other sophomores, Christian Ebert and Riley Krall, completed the scores with a 53 and 57, respectively, as the C/EM tallied a 197 to finish in a tie for second with Glenwood City.
Durand, led by co-medalists Simon Bauer and Logan Weissinger who both shot 42s, easily won the meet with a low tally of 175. Mondovi and Spring Valley finished with identical marks of 224 to share fourth place.
In the junior varsity competition, Colfax/Elk Mound topped the field for a second time this year with a 219 to beat Glenwood City (228) and Spring Valley (283). Leading JV was Matt Hanson with a 50, followed by Ethan Oas at 55, Ty Meyer had a 56, Kyle Irwin finished with a 58, Connor Albricht tallied a 62 and Aidan Schindler signed out with a 75.
Spring Valley
Three days later in Spring Valley, Colfax/Elk Mound was able to cut another four strokes from its team total but still found itself in third place behind Durand and Glenwood City.
Colfax/Elk Mound shot a 193 May 5 on the Spring Valley Golf Course while Durand won its fifth straight competition with a 169 while Glenwood City was the runner-up with a 187. Mondovi was fourth with a 213 and host Spring Valley shot a 219.
Jace Acker topped the Colfax/Elk Mound contingent with a 46 followed closely by Zane Brice’s 47. Luke Blanchard and Riley Krall both finished with a 50 and Christian Ebert wrapped up the varsity scores with a 55.
The junior varsity took second behind Glenwood City – 228 to 244, with Spring Valley shooting a 273.
Kyle Irwin had a 56 for the C/EM junior varsity. Connor Albricht tallied a 60, Lauren Horchem finished with a 62, Matt Hanson had a 66 and Aidan Schindler shot a 67.
Simon Bauer led all golfers with a 39.
Glen Hills
24 hours later, Colfax/Elk Mound shot its best round of golf this season, finishing with a 190 on the links at Glen Hills near Glenwood City.
Senior Luke Blanchard had a personal best effort of the year, shooting a 43. Zane Brice was just three strokes back with a 46. Riley Krall also broke 50 as he carded a 49. Christian Ebert shot a 52 and Jace Acker rounded out the varsity scores with a 546.
Colfax/Elk Mound finished in third place. Durand, led by Logan Weissinger’s 41, won again with a 174, the host Hilltoppers came in second with a 184, Mondovi was fourth with a 216 and Spring Valley was in the back of the pack with a 232.
The Colfax/Elk Mound junior varsity was second with a 247 as Matt Hanson shot a 57, Ty Meyer and Connor Albricht each had a 63, Kyle Irwin tallied a 64 and Aidan Schindler came off the course with a 75.
Stanley-Boyd
Colfax/Elk Mound shot a 366 in Saturday’s Stanley-Boyd Invitational to place sixth out of 14 schools.
Sophomore Jace Acker shot an 85 to finish in a three-way tie for 15th place along with Logan Weissinger of Durand and Isaac Brenner from Stanley-Boyd.
Fellow sophmore Zane Brice finished just outside the top 20, talling a 90 for a share of 22nd place.
Senior Luke Blanchard was two strokes back with a 92 followed by sophomores Riley Krall with a 99 and Christian Ebert with a 106.
McDonell’s Andrew Bauer finished first with a 72 while teammate Ben Biskupski tied for third after shooting a 77 to lead the Macks to the team championship with a score of 322. Medford scored a 328 to finish as the runner-up and D-SC leader Durand came in third after posting a 340.
