ELK MOUND — Five candidates have filed nomination papers for three positions on the Elk Mound Village Board in the April 5 election.
Incumbent village trustees Greg Kipp, Cynthia Abraham, and Tim Benjamin will face challengers Patrick Lien and Kathleen Degre.
Degre, age 47, has two grown children, Katrina, 31, and Cassandra, 21. Her family also includes one grandson Zander.
Formerly known as The Pourhouse, Degre currently owns Kat’s Pourhouse in Elk Mound.
The Colfax Messenger sent a candidate questionnaire to Degre, and here is her reply.
“After attending several schools as a child I dropped out of high school and obtained my GED.
“Five years later I returned to school to study paralegal. Not liking office work I returned to school to study criminal justice. During this time, 9/11 happened. I left school to accept a position with our newly founded government agency known as Homeland Security.
“After reflecting on my own morals and beliefs, I chose to leave my position with Homeland Security to open my own Private Investigation Agency. Angel Eyes investigation opened in 2002. I specialized in Domestic and Criminal Defense. I found my happy place where I could help make a difference for people.”
• Why did you decide to run for a position on the Elk Mound Village Board?
My decision to run for the board stems from attending several board meetings and realizing there’s not much community involvement and very little support for our local small business.
• Anything else you would like voters to know?
My answer to the final question is as simple as mutual respect and communication.
