FISHING TIME — A Boot! Donna caught a boot during our indoor fishing contest. Better luck next time. —photo submitted
February 19th-25th
It’s beginning to look a lot like…ugh, old man winter apparently has something to say.
The residents were so enthralled with the storm on Tuesday. Most of them were staring out the windows, enjoying the fresh snow pile up. Excited chatter about the wind whipping swirls of powder around in the courtyard and how cold it must be filled the common areas all day. I offered to take them sledding; many turned me down. I can’t imagine why.
Monday morning began with exercise. Afterwards, we gathered for coffee, hot chocolate and graham crackers. We discussed the approaching storm, took guesses at how many inches we were going to get compared to what was being forecasted and reminisced about past snow events. In the afternoon, I hosted “Name That Tune” Honky Tonk edition. Willard and Beverlye cleaned house. I am convinced that I need to host karaoke because Willard can sing a good cover! We also welcomed two new friends; Clancy and our new chef, Alex.
Tuesday was National Margarita Day. We started the day with Breakfast Trivia. The topic was about animals. Donna had some pretty good guesses. Household E still controlled the lead however. After trivia, we exercised to Roaring 20s jazz. We tried to do seated dancing; it’s a work in progress. Our church service with Boyceville Methodist was cancelled due to inclement weather. Instead, I entertained the residents with stories about my husband and our little cat over coffee.
Tuesday, we also continued with our Travel series. Last week, we went north; this week we went south to honor that frozen concoction, Margarita. The residents watched a documentary on the top resort towns in Mexico. And, of course, they enjoyed Margaritas on the Rocks…tequila and all! Fue grandioso!
Hair and nails on Wednesday. BINGO in the afternoon with our friends from Grand Oaks. Another amazing turnout. We gathered for hot chocolate and cookies right after.
On Thursday, we had Breakfast Trivia. What a showdown, folks! The topic was general trivia, but David and Marilyn clearly weren’t fazed by the questions. Both went question for question; however, Marilyn took it home for Household D! Household E still won the month by 1 point…ONE POINT! Amazing job by all! We had exercise and coffee time following clean up from breakfast.
Thursday afternoon I “took” the residents fishing. We had so much fun, even though not many joined us. I am confident that next time we will have more participation now that the mystery is over…the mystery of, “How do we fish indoors?” It’s a game I purchased with magnetic fish and a magnetic lure on a plastic fishing rod. The fish are very life-like and are worth points according to class. Of course, there is a boot and an eel to make the game a bit more interesting (and silly).
We ended our week with Dances With Wolves for the movie choice. Thank you, David, for requesting the movie. Popcorn was served, of course
Next week, we begin a new Month. It is rumored that the weather is going to warm nicely. The March activity calendar is available. Have a pleasant week!
