Bloomer/Colfax wrestlers takedown S-B Orioles, finish sixth at Ladysmith Invite

It was another successful week on the mat for the Bloomer/Colfax wrestling team.
The Raptors improved to 3-0 in Cloverbelt duals with a 46-24 Parents’ Night win over Stanley-Boyd in a contest wrestled at Colfax High School last Tuesday.
The local grapplers followed it up with a sixth-place showing in the Ladysmith Invitational on Saturday, January 15.
Bloomer/Colfax will travel to Cadott this Thursday, January 20 to grapple the sixth-ranked Hornets in a conference dual. The Raptors then head north to Shell Lake for an invitational on Saturday, January 22.
Stanley-Boyd
Wrestling its only match of the season in Colfax last Tuesday, January 11, Bloomer/Colfax won eight matches including four on pins and another three by forfeit to beat visiting Stanley-Boyd 46-24 in a Cloverbelt Conference dual.
In fact, all but one of the contested matches that evening were either determined by a pin or forfeit. There were also a pair of double forfeits at 106 and 152 pounds.
The only bout not to finish in a six-point result was the first match of the evening where the Raptors’ Alex Poirier majored the Orioles Landen Hoel 13-5 at 145 pounds.
Colfax senior Luke Blanchard continued his winning ways with a 1:25 pin of S-B’s Dylan Seichter at 160 pounds.
Bloomer/Colfax also got pins from Bowen Rothbauer (170), Ethan Rubenzer (182), and James McElroy (126).
Colfax’s other three wrestlers had mixed results. Heavyweight Dylyn Hiitola was awarded a forfeit at 285 pounds while Aiden Anderson and Brison Tuschl were both pinned by their Oriole opponents at 113 and 126 pounds, respectively.

Ladysmith Invitational
Seniors Luke Blanchard and Bowen Rothbauer earned first-place finishes at their respective weights of 152 and 160 pounds and each netted 50 team points to help propel the Bloomer/Colfax Raptor wrestling team to a sixth-place finish in the January 15 Ladysmith Invitational.
The Raptors had six other wrestlers place, finishing with 254 points in the 19-team tourney.
After a first-round bye, Blanchard registered first-period pins over his quarterfinal and semifinal opponents and then bested Cameron’s Tommy Quinn, 5-2, in the championship bout at 152 pounds. Blanchard improved to 19-3 on the season.
Rothbauer (26-2) also went 4-0 in the match with a decision and a pair of pins including a 3:34 fall over Josh Simon of Cumberland in the 160-pound final.
Colfax’s Brison Tuschl went 1-3 at 120 pounds to finish in eighth place.
Other Raptor place winners were: Alex Poirier, 3rd at 145; Ethan Rubenzer, 4th at 170; Brok McCann, 5th at 195; Evan Nitek, 6th at 182; and Kendra Hamman, 7th at 195.
Reedsville won the team title with 463 points followed by runner-up Cameron who posted a score of 424. Cumberland tallied a 363, Phillips finished with 301 and host Ladysmith scored a 290 to round out the top five.
