The Boyceville boys’ basketball team has been making strides on the court as the young squad has become more competitive in recent games, that progress, however, has yet to result in some wins.
Although they came close last week, the Bulldogs lost 41-37 at home to Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Tuesday, December 14 in a non-conference affair.
Two days later, Boyceville traveled to Spring Valley and went toe-to-toe with a Cardinals’ team many consider a conference championship contender this season. Undaunted, the Bulldog boys battled hard in both halves but fell short, 57-42.
With those most recent setbacks, Boyceville is now 0-3 in conference play and 1-5 overall and looked to wrap up its pre-holiday schedule with a win against visiting Amery last evening (December 21). The Bulldogs will enjoy a nice break before returning to action on Tuesday, January 4 when they host Clayton in a 7:30 p.m. match up.
Chetek-Weyerhaeuser
This battle of the Bulldogs was literally a dog fight from the opening tip off to the final buzzer.
The first half was equally played as Chetek-Weyerhaeuser held a one-point, 23-22, advantage of host Boyceville at the intermission.
The second and final half was not much different as the game went back-and-forth in a low-scoring contest that saw C-W earn an 18 to 15 advantage on the second-half scoreboard to secure the 41-37 victory.
Both squads had seven players put their names in the score book with Chetek-Weyerhaeuser’s Lawson Davis and Dylan Razim topping the scoring charts with 13 and 11 points respectively.
Boyceville’s top two scorers were Mason Bowell and Grant Kaiser who each tossed in nine points. Nick Olson added six and Simon Evenson chipped in for five points.
Spring Valley
Both the Bulldogs and Cardinals got off to a slow start Thursday in their D-SC clash in the Spring Valley gym.
Tied at eight all through nine minutes of action, the host Cardinals went on a 14-2 run to build a double-digits lead.
But, the scrappy Bulldogs rallied to close their deficit to 29-20 at the break.
Boyceville kept the contest close in the second half but Spring Valley was able to outpoint it 28-22 in the final 18 minutes to pocket the 57-42 victory.
The Cardinals got 16 points from Charlie Maier and Cade Stasiek with another ten by Jameson Bauer.
Unfortunately, no team or individual statistics for Boyceville were reported to the Tribune Press Reporter or posted online prior to Tuesday morning’s (Dec. 21) printing deadline.
