Boyceville’s cross country athletes began last week with a competition in Somerset and concluded it with a run at Fall Creek.
The Bulldogs returned from their Labor Day break to race at the Somerset Invitational last Tuesday, September 7 and then headed east on Saturday, September 11 to compete in the Knudtson Invite held annually at Fall Creek High School.
Somerset Invite
Although the Boyceville boys had no one finish better than 40th place at Somerset, they did field five runners, enough to have a complete squad for the first time this season and finished eighth in the 8-team field with 203 points.
Senior Brian Johnson turned in the best time for the Bulldog boys as he crossed the finish line in 22:13.0 to place 40th.
Freshman Caleb Olson was three spots back in 43rd after running a 22:32.6 over the 5,000-meter course.
Junior Dean Olson and freshman Michael Montgomery were the third and fourth Boyceville runners to finish. Olson came in 58th in a time of 24:22.1 while Montgomery placed 59th just three seconds later.
Another Boyceville freshman, Aidan Madison, filled out the varsity roster when he finished 67th in the field of 72 runners with a time of 27:02.7.
In the girls’ race, Boyceville sophomore Jaden Stevens ran well and earned the Bulldogs’ best finish of the meet, a 14th-place showing in a time of 24:00.9.
Junior Haylee Rasmussen clocked the course in 25:47.6 for 29th place followed by freshman Lauren Becker who ran a 28:29.2 to take 49th and senior Shiloh Wheeldon was the final Bulldog to cross the line taking 60th in 31:27.8
With just four runners, the Lady Bulldogs did not have enough to tally a team score.
St. Croix Central won the girls’ title with 26 points and its runners taking the top three spots while Prescott claimed second with a 78. On the boys’ side, Prescott came out on top with a 38 followed by Spring Valley who edged out Ellsworth by a mere two points – 61 to 63.
Knudson Invite
Once again, the Boyceville girls had just four runners compete in Saturday’s Knudtson Invite at Fall Creek and the boys had only two run in the varsity event, so neither squad registered a score in the team standings.
Once more, Jaden Stevens was Boyceville’s top finisher of the day. Stevens placed 17th in 24:19.2. Haylee Rasmussen finished 20 seconds later in 24th position.
The ladies final two competitors, Shiloh Wheeldon and junior Rachel Montgomery, came in 62nd and 64th, respectively. Wheeldon steered the course in 31:11 and Montgomery ran a 35:47.6.
Michael Montgomery was the top boys’ finisher with a placement of 45th in 23:07.2 followed by Aidan Madison who came in 66th with a time of 30:16.7.
Tomahawk won the boys’ and girls’ races and Durand was second in both.
The Bulldogs will be running in two more meets this week. They were in Rice Lake yesterday for an invite at UW-EC Barron County and go to Osceola this Saturday, September 18. Then next Tuesday, September 21, Boyceville travels to Mondovi.
