CORNELL — The Boyceville softball team went on the road to play Cornell/Lake Holcombe last Monday, June 14.
Although the score was close, the Bulldogs season ended with a 3-1 defeat in the WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal game.
Boyceville finished with an overall record of 9-13 and were 5-9 in Dunn-St. Croix Conference play.
After a scoreless first two innings, C/LH (15-5) broke through for three runs in the bottom of the third as its first three batters reached base on a walk, a Bulldog error and a single, two more hits brought in all three scores.
Cornell/Lake Holcombe held that lead until the Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the sixth when a Libby Bygd single brought in Hannah Dunn, who had also singled earlier in the inning.
Boyceville had just four hits in the game, two by Dunn and one each from Bygd and Madison Andrews.
C/LH hurler Izzy Clark struck out 17 Bulldog batters in the contest.
Bulldog hurler Ella Holden gave up just seven hits and whiffed six batters while walking three.
Boyceville will say good bye to five seniors including Mya Lagerstrom, Alexia Kaiser, Chrissa Kersten, Kady Grambo, and Veronica Turner.
