COLFAX — The Colfax Woman’s Club has sponsored an art contest for the first through the fifth grade at Colfax Elementary.
Instead of an in-person art show with student projects being displayed in the hallways at Colfax Elementary and in the art room, Stephanie Ulcej, art teacher, and her students produced a virtual art show this year.
Members of the Colfax Woman’s Club judged the students’ art projects using the Spring Art Show videos.
The art show is available for the public to enjoy on the Colfax School District website.
The students explain how or why they did their particular project.
This year has been challenging for students and their teachers because of the SARS-Co-V2 pandemic. Different adaptations were made throughout the elementary school, middle school and high school to keep everyone safe.
The students were not able to go to the art room this year because of the pandemic. Instead, the art teacher came to each class with art supplies and the lesson.
The art program used at Colfax Elementary is called Choice Art, or Teaching for Artistic Behavior.
Each time students have their art class, they have a short lesson such as a video about some type of art, a particular artist or another type of art information.
Then the students are treated like a real artist and are able to decide on a project using the supplies that are available to them.
The virtual art show is fun to watch. Some students worked in pairs or in groups.
