It wasn’t a great way to end the regular season when the Boyceville softball team lost 13-3 at home to Elk Mound June 7. But two days later, the Bulldogs (#7) began the WIAA Division 4 regional tournament by defeating the Spring Valley Cardinals (#10) for the third time this year 13-6 and moved on to play at Cornell/Lake Holcombe (#2) this past Monday, June 14. A win would put Boyceville in today’s (Wednesday, June 16) regional championship against either Fall Creek (#3) or Elmwood/Plum City (#6).
The sectional tournament is slated for next Monday and Wednesday, June 21 and 23.
Elk Mound
Boyceville had as many errors as hits in the contest with five each which doesn’t make it easy to beat a team of Elk Mound’s caliber.
The Bulldogs were down just 1-0 before the flood gates opened with the Mounders scoring nine runs in the third inning to open up a 10-0 lead before Hannah Dunn came home for the Bulldogs on a hit from Libby Bygd in the third inning.

Boyceville added a pair of runs in the fifth as Dunn and Olivia Ponath came home but, the Mounders added a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to finish the game off.
Madison Andrews banged a pair of hits for the Bulldogs while Dunn scored twice and, Bygd and Mya Lagerstrom each picked up an RBI. Ella Holden pitched three innings and gave up ten runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Alison McRoberts threw the last three innings and whiffed one batter while giving up three runs.
Spring Valley
The Spring Valley Cardinals had just one win on the season but had been steadily improving as the year went on.
They started the game with two runs but the Bulldogs matched that with two of their own in the bottom of the first highlighted by freshman Hannah Dunn’s solo home run.
Boyceville upped their lead to 6-2 after three innings before Spring Valley tacked on two in the top of the fourth to get a little closer. The Bulldogs responded again however, and came up with two in the bottom of the inning for an 8-4 advantage.
After the Cardinals cut the Bulldog lead to two again at 8-6, Boyceville put the hammer down and came up with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.
Dunn collected two hits including the aforementioned home run with two RBIs, Andrews had two hits and an RBI, and Kady Grambow smacked a double and brought two runs in. Holden earned the win, allowing nine hits, struck out six batters, and walked three.
