COLFAX — The Colfax High School musical, “Shrek,” will be performed June 11, 12 and 13.
Based on the Dreamworks Animation motion picture and the book by William Steig, and with book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori, “Shrek” is described as a “fairytale like none other!”
The musical is under the direction of Derek Westholm, Colfax High School music teacher and band director.
Costumes are by Emily Krause with Jolene Westholm assisting.
Set construction is by Craig Greenwell and Trevor Hovde.
Painting and art design is by Rich Meredith, Stephanie Ulcej and their students.
“Shrek the Musical” first appeared on Broadway December 14, 2008.
Shrek is an ogre who eventually finds his true love, Fiona, who turns out to be an ogress, although at first she only turns into an ogress at night. Shrek does not know about Fiona’s nightly transformation.
The story includes Shrek’s friend, Donkey, and the evil Lord Farquaad.
The story also includes a cast of fairytale creatures, including a fire-breathing dragon.
In the end, Shrek and Fiona admit their love for one another. Their first kiss breaks Fiona’s curse, and her “true form” emerges — as an ogress.
Shrek and Fiona begin their life together and everyone celebrates their liberation from the evil Lord Farquaad’s rule.
The cast for Shrek includes: Drew Gibson as Shrek; Caden Erickson as Donkey; Katie Riley as Fiona; Jessie Lyrek as Farquaad; Hannah Lemler as Dragon/Momma Ogre/Blind Mouse; Theo Hovde as Gingy; Nathan Boesl as Pinocchio; Aimee Fruit as Teen Fiona/Mamma Bear; Ava Sedivy as Child Fiona/Fairy Godmother; Aydren Beebe as Papa Ogre/Thelonius/Pig; Audrey Ackerlund as Sugar Plum Fairy; Catherine Zons as Elf; Nokomis Nosker as Wicked Witch; Ashley Solberg as Blind Mouse/Baby Bear; Alana Smith as Blind Mouse/Big Bad Wolf; Baylee Beebe as Ugly Duckling; David Lyrek as Pig/Dwarf; Gracie Burgraff as Pied Piper/Pig; Sienna Plank as White Rabbit; David Paulson as Papa Bear; Rosie Sonnentag as Peter Pan.
