The Colfax offense was silent when the Lady Vikings’ softball team hosted Mondovi May 10, dropping a 5-0 game to the Buffaloes.
Three days later, they took an early lead at Durand but couldn’t hold on as they lost 4-3 to the Panthers.
Colfax is still looking for their first win after their sixth loss of the season.
The Vikings hoped to pick up that first win of the season and conference when they hosted winless Spring Valley Monday, may 17. They then have a pair of back-to-back road games against rival Elk Mound this Thursday and next Monday, May 24 in Plum City with the league-leading Wolves of Elmwood/Plum City. Glenwood City will then come to Colfax on Tuesday, May 25.
Mondovi
Looking at the positive side of things, Colfax pitcher Anna Geissler whiffed ten Buffalo batters and gave up just five hits with one base on balls. But the hitting was non-existent as the Vikings had zero hits off Mondovi hurler Abby Johnson
Their only two base runners came by way of the walk with Jaida Riley and Bailey Bradford each drawing one.
It was 0-0 until the top of the fourth when the Buffs scored twice. They tallied three more in the seventh for insurance and Johnson took care of business in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.
Durand
The Vikings scored once in the second inning and twice in the third for a 3-0 advantage in a May 13 contest held at the former Arkansaw Elementary School.
After giving up a pair of runs in the fourth, they were clinging to a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. But, things went sour for Colfax when the Panthers scored twice to take the lead on three hits and a walk.
The Vikings couldn’t come up with any runs in their final at bat and they took a heartbreaking loss home.
The Vikings had just five hits in the game with McKenna Shipman collecting two of them with an RBI. Geissler slammed a double and knocked in a run while Jada Anderson and Bradford each had a hit.
Geissler scattered eight hits while striking out three and walking three.
“We had 6-7 hard shots to their shortstop and third baseman who made some very tough plays for outs,” Colfax coach John Dickinson said. “We could have easily had 10-12 hits without those plays. It was a great game for us, though,” he added.
