COLFAX – For a second consecutive year, the annual Colfax athletic banquet was not held due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Therefore, each fall and winter sports team held their own get together, either virtual or in person, allowing the respective coaches to present their team awards.
Fall sports all had shorter seasons and saw limited competition due to the virus.
Cross Country, coached by Joe Doucette, had Molly Heidorn receive the Most Valuable Runner award for the girls and Noah Heidorn for the boys. Most Improved for the girls went to Aynsley Olson and Jaclyn Olson while Luke Blanchad was Most Improved for the boys.
Varsity volleyball coach Pam Meredith presented Madison Barstad with the Most Valuable Player award and Maci Harvey was the Defensive Player of the Year and Brooklyn Stehling was named Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, Jeannette Hydukovich was Rookie of the Year and Brynn Bergeson was presented with the Culture of Leadership award.
Football players were presented awards by head coach Matt DeMoe. The Back of the Year award went to Drew Gibson and Austin Schindler was named both Defensive Most Valuable Player and Lineman of the Year. In addition, Hunter Rebak was chosen as the overall Most Valuable Player.
Winter sports had a late start but managed to get plenty of games in. First year girls basketball coach Courtney Sarauer presented Madison Barstad with the Most Valuable Player and Top Rebounder awards. Addisyn Olson was the Best Defensive Player and Emilee Burcham-Scofield won the Most Improved award.
Boys basketball coach Mark Noll, another first year coach, named Caden Erickson and Noah Heidorn as co-Most Valuable Players and Erickson was also Most Improved. Tanner Hoffman was named Best Hustle, Drew Gibson was the Top Rebounder, Nate Hydukovich was the Best Defender and the Coaches award went to Max Knudson, Hunter Rebak and Danny Cuaquehua.
(Wrestling information was not received and the Dance team is still in competition.)
Spring sports competition will begin later this month and the traditional Male and Female Athletes of the Year and Most Coachable Player awards will be announced after the seasons end.
