MENOMONIE – The Colfax Varsity Dance Team competed this past Saturday, March 6, in the Menomonie Classic Invite.
This competition is normally the teams’ first competition in December. Definitely a different vibe having the competition in March right before conference and regionals.
It was a grouped competition. The girls arrived in Menomonie, performed, and then left. Again, very different not having an audience to perform for. This was an open competition and Colfax, a Division 5 team, competed in the small school category, which groups Division 4 and Division 5 teams as one.
Colfax placed 4th in Jazz, just 1.5 points from 3rd. (Prescott – 1st, St. Croix Central – 2nd, Spring Valley – 3rd, Colfax – 4th) They placed 6th in Pom only ½ a point from 5th and 4 points from 3rd (Prescott – 1st, St. Croix Central – 2nd, Mondovi – 3rd, Pepin/Alma – 4th, Spring Valley – 5th, Colfax – 6th, Cameron – 7th). There was a very close point spread between most teams competing in the small school division. Also, Judges Choice awards are given to teams that stand out in a unique way during their performance. Colfax’s Jazz routine received the award for, “Creative Use of Costume.”
The team will be working to sharpen their routines before next weekend when they compete in River Falls at the Western Wisconsin Conference Competition. Here, they will only be competing against teams within the Dunn-St. Croix Conference.
