Glenhaven News
January 2-8
Are you all taking it a little easy now with the Christmas rush done? We had beautiful weather this year, which made traveling much nicer for a lot of families, I’m sure.
Congratulations to Tricia, Jesse and Claira on the birth of their new son and brother! For those of you who don’t know Tricia, she is one of our nurses here at Glenhaven. Enjoy your time with your new little one.
People seemed to be really gearing up for Christmas early in the year of the covid. I heard several people comment that they couldn’t find tree lights, wrapping paper, etc. a week before Christmas even arrived. I know we did a little shopping for those type of things last evening, and believe me, there wasn’t much left to shop for. Shelves were pretty much bare in the Christmas section.
We held a January spelling bee this week, which was names of different kinds of soup. There were some that I had never heard of, much less know how to spell. Residents did the best they could to sound them out. Some of the rather weird ones were gazpacho, lobster bisque and posole.
National trivia day was also on Monday, so we did some trivia for the New Year. Each answer had the word “new” in it. That was a fun time, and residents did quite well with it.
Church services were enjoyed on Tuesday morning, and Resident Council was held, on a room by room basis, in the afternoon. Residents expressed any concerns they were having, which were then communicated to the department heads. Care conferences were also held on Tuesday, which will be our norm for now, instead of Thursdays.
Jen returned to the beauty shop this week. A lot of ladies are waiting for perms, etc., so she will be very busy for a while. We’re glad to have her back!
Bingo was played on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, with treats following, of course. We ate up the rest of our fruit cake. And some people, my husband included, say it lasts for 10 years!! We play Bingo about an hour in each household so everyone gets a chance to play.
Friday was Elvis Presley’s birthday, which to me is kind of like a national holiday. We watched some of his movies, played his music, and did some Elvis trivia. We enjoyed root beer floats for our birthday treat. Life size Elvis was here visiting the households and other places in the building. He is getting to look a little older each year that he comes in-much like the rest of us!
Have a good week and stay healthy. It sounds like we are in for some spectacular weather for January. Haven’t the trees been beautiful?
