COLFAX — The Colfax Board of Education has approved a total combined tax levy of $3.14 million for 2020-2021.
The motion approved by the school board at the October 26 meeting for a tax levy of $3,135,554 included six different elements.
The total proposed tax levy at the school district’s annual meeting in August was $2,873,941, which was $261,613 less than the actual tax levy approved by the school board.
The amount for non-referendum approved energy efficiency debt service is $179,569 (Fund 38).
The amount for non-referendum approved land purchase debt service is $10,885 (Fund 38).
The amount for non-referendum approved unfunded liability debt service is $60,838 (Fund 38).
The amount for non-referendum approved tennis court improvements debt service is $11,938 (Fund 38).
Each of the four non-referendum debt service items comes to a total of $263,230.
Tax levy referendum-approved debt service is $449,998 (Fund 39).
The property tax for the 2020-2021 school year is $2,422,336.
The projected mill rate at the annual meeting in August for 2020-2021was $7.47 per $1,000 of property value or $747 per $100,000 of property value.
The actual mill rate for 2020-2021 will be $7.98, which compares to a mill rate of $7.98 for 2019-2020 and $7.99 for 2018-2019.
In 2017-2018, the mill rate was $8.41 per $1,000 of property value.
Property value in the school district has increased by $19.8 million over last year.
In 2019, the school district’s property value was $373 million, and in 2020, the property value is $392.9 million.
The estimated state equalization aid for Colfax reported at the annual meeting was $5.63 million, and the actual amount of state aid that will be received by the school district is $5.66 million — $5,656,112 — for the 2020-2021 school year.
Other business
In other business, the Colfax Board of Education:
• Learned there are 65 students open-enrolled into the school district and 103 students open-enrolled out of the school district. The district will be receiving $534,533 for the students open-enrolling in and will pay out $846,395 for students open-enrolling out of the district.
• Learned that the third Friday in September pupil count was 764.
• Approved a revised policy on attendance recommended by the school district’s policy consultant, Neola (formerly known as North East Ohio Learning Associates).
