OSSEO — The Colfax/Elk Mound girls’ golf team continues to improve.
In a pair of CloverCroix Conference golf meets last week the Colfax/EM ladies recorded their best two team scores of the season shooting a 231 last Monday, September 14 at the Osseo Golf Course to finish in a fourth-place tie with Stanley-Boyd and then knocked off another nine strokes to finish fourth with a 222 at the Princeton Valley Golf Course on Thursday, September 17.
“I think we are loaded with potential – hopefully we see some of that turn into great results as the year comes to a close and we approach the postseason,” stated head coach Ryan Krall. “These kids work so hard and really try to do everything right – as we keep gaining experience their scores will match their work ethic. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with what our kids have done so far – I’m excited for the second half of our conference season.”
In Osseo last Monday, Hannah Lemler paced the team with a 55, followed closely by Olivia Clickner with a 57 and Grace Shafer carded a 58.
“Those three have been our top 3 all season,” noted Krall. “We continue to need them to improve if we plan on moving up in the conference standings and finishing in the top three at year’s end.”
Krall said that he was also really impressed with Emma Nechanicky, who jumped into the top five tonight in her first varsity action and did a commendable job finishing with a 61. Ella Reese rounded out the varsity scoring with a 65.
“Overall, I’m happy with how our kids competed tonight (in Osseo),” added Krall. “The weather was perfect, so we really had an opportunity to step up and play well, so I was pleased that we were able to shoot our best team score of the year.”
Host Osseo-Fairchild/Fall Creek won that meet by two strokes over runner-up Altoona/Regis – 192 to 194 – led by medalist Madyson Rosman who shot a 44. Flambeau was third with a score of 214.
Just three days later (September 17), at a conference meet hosted by Altoona/Regis at Princeton Valley, Colfax/Elk Mound topped its previous team best after scoring a 222 for sole possession of fourth place at the 5-team CloverCroix meet. Altoona/Regis won the event with a 191 followed by Osseo-Fairchild/Fall Creek with a 197, Flambeau had a 208, Colfax (222) and Stanley-Boyd at 231.
Individual results were not available at press time Monday.
Colfax/Elk Mound hosted a conference meet at Whitetail Monday (September 21) before wrapping up conference play at Lake Hallie in the CloverCroix Conference tournament this Thursday, September 24.
The WIAA Division 2 Regional tournament is set for either next Wednesday, September 30 or Thursday, October 1 at Pheasant Hills in Hammond.
