The new Colfax/Elk Mound girls’ golf cooperative open its season last week with a pair of CloverCroix Conference matches.
Colfax/Elk Mound got the 2020 regular season in swing with a 5-team match at the Tee-A-Way Golf Course in Flambeau where it finished fifth with a score of 260. But two days later at Whispering Pine Golf Course near Cadott, the 10-member squad saw a vast improvement as it shaved 24 strokes off its final team tally to secure a fourth-place tie with Flambeau with a 236.
In the season opener at Flambeau, Colfax senior Hannah Lemler led the team with a low score of 62. Elk Mound juniors Grace Shafer scored a 64, Oliva Clickner and Livi Schindler each carded a 67 an Ella Reese tallied a 69 to round out the varsity scores for C/EM.
Emma Anderson of Regis/Altoona shot a 47 to earn medalist honors and help her team to a first-place tie with Osseo-Fairchild/Fall Creek after both finished with a score of 204. Stanley-Boyd was third with a 236 followed by Flambeau at 237 and Colfax/Elk Mound with a 260.
At Whispering Pines Thursday, September 3, cut two dozen strokes off its team score as it finished with a 236 and fourth-place tie with Flambeau.
Junior Grace Shafer had the top score of 56 for Colfax/Elk Mound. Fellow Mounder and classmate Olivia Clickner finished just one stroke behind Shafer. Lone senior Hannah Lemler netted a 58 for C/EM in the CloverCroix Conference meet. Rounding out the varsity five scores were Ella Reese with a 65 and Livi Schindler with a 78.
Osseo-Fairchild/Fall Creek took top team honors with a score of 200 after team member Madyson Rosman shot a 44 to win individual medalist honors. Regis/Altoona was the meet runner-up with a 205 followed by Stanley-Boyd at 232 and Colfax/Elk Mound and Flambeau, each with scored of 236.
Colfax/Elk Mound also had five junior varsity players compete last Thursday, Emma Nechanicky shot a 57, Brynna Streifel hit for 66, Selena Clickner and Kelly Turner each carded a 75 and Josie Seehaver finished with a 79.
Colfax/Elk Mound will have this week off but will return to the links at Osseo-Fairchild for another CloverCroix match next Monday, September 14. Regis/Altoona will then host a meet at the Princeton Valley GC on September 17 before C/EM hosts its only meet of the year on Monday, September 21 at the Whitetail Golf Course.
