BLACK LIVES MATTER — As protests spread across the United States following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on Memorial Day after a white police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes, a group of Colfax residents wanted to show their support for Black Lives Matter as well. From right: Kathy, Emma (age 4), August (age 5), Cindy and Dusti Merkelvoy stood with their signs in front of the Colfax Municipal Building on Wednesday, June 3. Emma, after seeing protesters in Menomonie and asking what they were doing (“helping keep our community safe”) wanted to know if they could do that, too, in Colfax. And so they did. —photo by LeAnn R. Ralph
