COLFAX — Four candidates are running for three positions on the Colfax Village Board in the April 7 election.
The candidates are Margaret Burcham, Carey Davis, Mark Halpin and Gary Stene.
The Colfax Messenger sent out questionnaires to the candidates.
Here are Gary Stene’s answers to the questionnaire.
• What is your occupation? Retired.
• Tell us about your family? Married 55 years to Cheryl; two daughters; seven grandkids; 3 great-grandkids.
• Why did you decide to run for election?
I just retired and have more time to commit to the job.
• What makes you suited to serve on the village board?
Village board president for 10 years. County board supervisor for three terms.
• What issues do you see as being the most important for Colfax?
All of the issues— economic development, housing, business development, streets, utilities, water quality and parks — are vital to our community’s growth.
• What issues would you like to see addressed by the village board?
Maximizing our dollar impact on the village’s long-range planning, utilizing firms that specialize in financial planning and educating our board and citizens about what it takes to remain competitive.
• Why are you the best candidate?
I bring a lot of experience to the job and am interested in our village and schools moving forward. If you are staying even, you are falling behind. The voters will decide who the best candidate is.
