COLFAX — Five candidates are running for three positions on the Colfax Board of Education in the April 7 election.
The candidates are Jaclyn Ackerlund, Ken Bjork, Christie Hill, Jodi Kiekhafer and Gary Stene.
The Colfax Messenger sent out questionnaires to each of the candidates. Here are Jodi Kiekhafer’s answers to the questionnaire.
• What is your occupation?
RN at Mayo Clinic Health System and Dept. of Labor Case Manager.
• Tell us about your family.
My husband and three adults sons are all Colfax graduates.
• What is your educational background?
BSN from UW-Oshkosh.
• Why did you decide to run for the Colfax Board of Education?
Having grown up here and also raised a family in Colfax, I felt I could offer some insight into the position.
• What makes you suited to serve on the school board?
Knowledge in budgeting of resources, time and money as well as having children that have passed through the system have given me knowledge in what is needed and best for the school system to move it forward.
• Besides the budget, what do you believe to be the biggest challenges or issues facing the Colfax school district?
Being able to properly prepare students for what comes next in their lives. With changing times comes challenges that the schools must face to keep students interested and on track to successful futures.
• How would you suggest addressing those challenges or issues for the Colfax school district?
Offering a curriculum that gives students the knowledge and tools they will need to succeed after high school.
• What other ideas do you have for improving the school district?
Identifying areas of our workforce that are in need of workers and giving students a solid base of classes that may jump start them toward a career in these occupations such as carpentry or welding.
• Why are you the best candidate?
I still have that sense of pride from being a Viking all those years ago. I am willing to see outside the box and ask questions.
