TOWN OF PERU — An Eau Claire man died in a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Peru at the intersection of county Highway O and state Highway 85 early Thursday morning.
According to a news release from Dunn County Sheriff Kevin Bygd, the deceased was identified as 54-year-old William Girard of Eau Claire.
The driver of the second vehicle, 67-year-old Dale Bauer of Durand, sustained minor injuries in the accident but was not transported by ambulance.
At about 5:48 a.m. Thursday, February 20, the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department, the Durand fire department and the Durand ambulance service, along with the Mayo 1 helicopter, were dispatched to Highway 85 and Highway O for a two-vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment.
The vehicle operated by Bauer, a 2007 Ford Explorer, was northbound on Highway O and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection, according to the initial crash investigation.

Girard was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated.
Durand ambulance and Mayo 1 personnel attempted live-saving measures, but Girard was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dunn County medical examiner, according to the news release.
The crash remains under investigation by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
