To date, the conference season has been perfect for the Lady Vikings’ basketball team as they took two more wins last week. Beating both Elmwood/Plum City and Glenwood City.
The wins have moved the ladies to 10-0 in the Dunn St. Croix with an overall record of 14-2, and they are currently ranked fifth in Division 4 in the Coach’s poll on Wissports.net.
Colfax hosted the Elmwood/Plum City Wolves on Tuesday evening, January 28, and did not back down as they led both halves and took the win 73-36. This was much like the win over the Wolves earlier in the season, December 10, when the Vikings took a win 72-32.
A double double by Kameri Meredith during Friday evening’s contest, January 31, against the Glenwood City Hilltoppers helped to solidify a 74-37 win over the Toppers. Glenwood City had kept things close in the first half, 22-35, but Colfax rallied to score 39 points in the second half.
The Colfax ladies hosted St. Croix Central this past Monday evening before heading to Mondovi on Thursday evening, February 6, and will be back at home against the Durand Panthers on Tuesday, February 11.
Elmwood/Plum City
The Colfax girls’ basketball team was once again on the winning end as they kept a huge deficit between them and Elmwood/Plum City on Tuesday evening, January 28.
“Elmwood tries really hard and I was impressed with their effort, they have two or three kids I really like,” said head coach Joe Doucette. “We looked good in stretches, but at times we did not.”
Rachel Scharlau has been dominate in scoring for Colfax, and Tuesday was no different as she put up 17 points. Scharlau had eight doubles, and was one-for-two at the line.
As for senior Kameri Meredith, her performance in shooting hasn’t been stellar as Colfax’s opponents have been able to keep her shut down. But for the first time since January 9, Meredith was able to score in the double digits as she had 11 points off of five doubles and a single free throw.
“Rachel, Kameri, and Taylor Irwin led our offense, and we had some nice passes to them,” explained Doucette. “Morgan Schleusner is playing at a high level, and her assist to turnover ratio has been great.”
Irwin and Schleusner had 15 points between them, with Irwin hitting a double, triple, and was five-for-six at the line and Schleusner had two doubles and was one-for-one at the charity stripe.
Colfax was able to play everyone which included their bench players, and had twelve players score in the 73-36 win over the Wolves.
Madison Barstad scored seven points for Colfax off of three doubles and was one-for-two at the line, and Addy Olson came in during the first half and hit a pair of threes.
Starter Jayna Bowe was able to snag three points in the opening 18 minutes with a double and was one-for-one at the foul line.
In the final minutes of Tuesday’s contest, Colfax’s JV players were able to earn varsity minutes including Ryleigh Parker, Jasmine Best, and Jillian Bowe, who all had two points a piece.
“We know that good teams keep helping each other and keep getting better, and that is what we want to do,” Doucette said. “We will take the remaining games one at a time knowing we can keep improving.”
Also scoring for Colfax were Marissa Harmon with five points and Saville Wilson with three points.

The Colfax ladies traveled to Glenwood City this past Friday evening, January 31, and were able to take another win to move to 10-0 in the D-SC conference.
“We got off to a slow start, I thought we tried hard and we did not turn it over,” said coach Joe Doucette. “But we could not get things going.”
Rachel Scharlau has become a leader on the court for the Lady Vikes as she scored another 17 points during Friday evening’s contest. Scharlau had five doubles, was seven-for-nine at the charity stripe, and had seven rebounds and a steal.
“Rachel led us in scoring, but she could have had a huge night had she not missed some easy ones,” Doucette explained.
Kameri Meredith and Madison Barstad had 20 points between the pair. Meredith put up a double double for Colfax with 10 rebounds and 11 points. Barstad had four doubles and was one-for-one at the charity stripe for nine points.
Senior Josie Steinke scored late in the first half for the Vikings with a pair of threes. Steinke is a “great kid” according to coach Doucette and has been able to fill an important roll for Colfax late in the season.
Taylor Irwin and Marissa Harmon have been able to play deep for the Vikings as they each had a pair of threes Friday evening. Irwin also had a double and two assists and Harmon had one rebound.

COLFAX’S Addy Olson attempted to lay in this shot during a Vikings fast break opportunity in Glenwood City last Friday, January 31. The senior finished with one three pointer as Colfax won road contest 74-37 to improve to 10-0 in conference action.

“I thought we tried hard all game, but played better and shot the ball better after a slow start,” Doucette commented. “We are excited if we get everyone going together we could really be good, but time will tell.”
Also scoring for the Vikings were Saville Wilson with a double and triple, Addisyn Olson was four-for-four at the line, Addy Olson with a triple, Morgan Schleusner and Jasmine Best with two points a piece, and Jayna Bowe with a single foul shot.
