NEW RICHMOND – State Representative Rob Stafsholt (R-New Richmond) released the following statement regarding the veto override of Northern Wisconsin’s Crisis Center:
“In the state budget, Assembly Republicans supported $15 million to establish a crisis center in Northern Wisconsin. After speaking with local law enforcement and health care officials, this funding would have been needed relief for Western Wisconsin, and there would have been a number of benefits for our citizens.
“Unfortunately, Governor Evers played politics with mental health and chose to veto the Northern center and send the money back to Madison. Mental health is not a partisan issue, so I remain confused as to why Governor Evers would shut down this critical funding.
“Yesterday, Assembly Republicans voted to override Governor Evers’ veto. I am disappointed in the Assembly Democrats who chose to put partisan politics ahead of rural Wisconsin residents. However, I pledge to continue working on this issue with law enforcement and mental health stakeholders to ensure Northern Wisconsin has the mental health support we need.”
