TOWN OF TAINTER — A 72-year-old Menomonie man was found dead Friday night in Tainter Lake near a boat that was still running with the lights on.
While Dunn County Sheriff’s Department deputies were searching the lake, they found the male operator, later identified as Daniel Buss, deceased in the water near the boat.
According to a news release from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department, at around 11:30 p.m. Friday. September 20, the sheriff’s department responded to an address in the Town of Tainter for a report of a missing person near the Lake Tainter Channel.
“Channel” refers to the channel past Jake’s Supper Club, toward the Kleist boat landing and the “old” Pine Point, said Dunn County Sheriff Kevin Bygd.
The Menomonie fire department also responded to the scene with a boat and additional equipment.
When deputies arrived at the lake, they discovered the boat, which had last been operated by the person who was missing, partially tied up to the dock with the lights still on and the motor running.
The Dunn County Sheriff’s Department and the state Department of Natural Resources are still investigating the incident, according to the sheriff’s department news release.
