Participate in free five year groundwater study with the county
Residents of St. Croix County are encouraged to take part in a five year groundwater study being conducted by the St. Croix County Community Development Department. The study begins this fall and is looking for approximately 170 additional participants. The County is seeking one private well owner approximately every four square miles. The available locations can be accessed under “What’s Happening” found at the bottom of the main St. Croix County website, www.sccwi.gov. Click on the Citizen Groundwater Monitoring Program square. This study will collect and analyze information about nitrate concentrations, herbicides, and additional water characteristics that affect your well water and local groundwater.
Additional information about program requirements can be found on the Citizen Groundwater Monitoring subpage, as accessed above. You may also contact the County with additional questions, 715.386.4680 or cdd@sccwi.gov. This sign up is capped at 203 participants and is on a first-come first-serve basis. There are already 45 people signed up and as additional people sign up, the grid location where your well is, may no longer be available.
It is encouraged by the County and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources that all private wells are tested annually for nitrate and bacteria, information on how to test can be found under the Drinking Water Program found on the county website.
