When Ted Miller, Colfax Sportsmen’s Club multi-gun match director, was contacting sponsors for the club’s 2019 United Multi-Gun League (UML) Finale, Liberty Lubricants said it would cover the entry fee for a randomly selected competitor 17 years old or younger.
Liberty’s idea was to introduce a new, young, shooter to the sport. It was up to the club to come up with the youth.
To meet the requirement, Colfax Sportsmen’s Club put on a drawing for members of it Scholastic Action Shooting Team and Scholastic Trap Team, and any other interested teens under the age of 18. The only requirement was to register for the drawing. Nokomis Nosker, a member of both teams, did just that and was the youth picked. After her parents gave their permission, club members began loaning her the gear she needed.
Within a week she was outfitted with a 9mm pistol, gun belt, magazines and mag carriers, shotgun shell carriers, rifle mag pouch, 12 gauge race shotgun and an optic sighted .223 caliber modern sporting rifle.
Nosker was one of 56 competitors Sept. 7 in the day long UML match at the Colfax/Dunn County Shooting Sports Complex. She shot again Sept. 8 in a UML team match, the second part of the finale.
After two long days and hundreds of rounds down range, Nosker went home with the High Lady trophy, an ammo box full of cleaning supplies from Liberty Lubricants and a plan to return to UML competition next year.
