News for the week of September 8th – 14th:
Sunday we started our week at the Big Yellow House celebrating Grandparents Day! We served muffins and coffee while making toilet paper pumpkins. It was a great day celebrating and gathering families together.
Monday was Green Leaf Café where the residents are able to pick out diner type meals for lunch and enjoy each other’s company! This is a team effort by the staff here at CHRC and the residents seem to enjoy it. We then celebrated the ladies at Mid-West Therapy and their newest additions to their families. Two baby girls are due soon and everyone here at the Big Yellow House is excited for them. Loretta led us in Rosary and as always we appreciate her time and that she comes to share this with us. We ended our Monday with huge blow up bowling pins and a beach ball; it was many laughs and lots of fun as we cheered each other on!
Tuesday morning is always off to a great start with Al, Gus and Toby leading the Cribbage group. The residents always look forward to this weekly gathering, although sometimes I think it is more about the company and cookies then the game itself! Catholic Prayer time was held in Willow, we appreciate that this always happens for the Residents. As always there was Prize Bingo in the Square, where everyone goes home a winner! Our volunteers run around a lot during Bingo to get those prizes out, we are glad they are here to help!
Pastor Natzke led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. Angela is always here on Wednesday morning in the beauty shop, where residents gather for shop talk and to get their hair done. Many Residents really look forward to this time of the week! This week we decided to try our hand at Farkle! After a few rounds we got the hang of it and ended up playing it a few more days this week! We are having lots of fun and lots of laughs mastering Farkle! Next up we want to learn how to play Smear, so if anyone knows how come join us!
Thursday we attempted to play Trivia on the Wii, but gave up after a few hard questions and decided to roll the dice and play a game of Farkle instead! The weather was not cooperating with us yet again, so outdoor visits were cancelled. Hopefully next week brings us some sunshine so we can gather outside. Fellowship with Jordan in the Rotunda is always a great way to end our day.
On Friday morning we gathered in the Square for Gospel Sing a Long. This activity has been a weekly tradition for many years here at Colfax Health and Rehab, and the residents enjoyed listening to the talents of Kathy on piano and Bruce on the guitar. Friday afternoon always bring us Dime Bingo in the Square. We have lots of laughs and winners. Loretta and Leslie have to hustle to get those dimes out when we hear Bingo! Michelle is always great at calling out our numbers. We love that we have volunteers to help us during Bingo!
Next week will hold more adventures and fun for the Residents of Colfax Health and Rehabilitation so stay tuned!
