BRUCE — It was a sunny but blustery day when the Bulldogs ran at the 19th Annual Bruce Cross Country Invitational in Bruce on Tuesday, September 3rd.
For the most part, head coach Corey Day was happy with the teams’ results.
“Overall, I can see we are making strides in the right direction, we just have to keep the momentum going forward,” Day said.
Day was very pleased with Emma Gruenhagen whom he said cut significant time off from her first meet. She finished the race in first for the Lady Bulldogs and ninth overall with a time of 24:14.10, thus earning her, her first high school medal.
Flambeau’s Kristen Lawton won the girls’ race in 21:22.44 with Cameron taking the team title.
Naomi Hillman, Noelle Wheeldon, Haylie Rasmussen and Shiloh Wheeldon rounded out the top finishers for the Lady Dawgs.
On the boys side, it was once again Nathan Corr who finished first for the Bulldogs with a fifth-place finish after finishing with a time of 19:06.61. According to Coach Day, Nathan battled for third place for most of the race. In the end, it was about five seconds that separated third from fifth place.
Owen Dickenson of Solon Springs/Northwoods was the boys’ champion with a 17:10.56 run and helped his team score first in the final boys’ team standings.
Coach Day also praised the race that Brian Johnson ran, stating that, “he also showed significant improvement from the first meet.” Johnson finished in the 3rd slot for the Bulldogs while Steven Rasmussen was second. Kade Klefstad ran in the fourth position and Nathaniel Chich was Boyceville’s fifth runner.
The Bulldogs race again this Saturday, September 14th when they head to Fall Creek. The teams will then compete at UW-Barron County in Rice Lake next Tuesday, September 17.
