Vikings’ Volleyball starts season with 2nd place in silver bracket at UW-Stout sprawl

MENOMONIE — The Lady Vikes were able to kick off their 2019 volleyball season with a second-place finish in the silver bracket of the Menomonie Sprawl that took place on Friday and Saturday, August 30 and 31 at UW-Stout.
“We went 5-2 this weekend,” said head coach Pam Meredith. “We finished 3-1 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday. We finished 10th overall out of 40 teams.”
In Friday’s tournament opener, Colfax managed to beat Chippewa Falls High School in two straight sets with scores of 25-23 and 25-20.
Kameri Meredith had nine kills, four aces and six digs in the Vikings first match of the weekend, she ended the day with 56 kills total in matches against Chippewa, Clayton, Barron and Oshkosh West.
“Kameri had 56 kills Friday, 66 kills on Saturday and 11 blocks,” said coach Meredith. “It was a great start for the tournament.”
The second match of the day saw Colfax losing in two straight sets to Oshkosh West with scores of 25-20 and 25-14.
Samantha Pretasky started the weekend out slow, according to Meredith, with only a single block against Oshkosh as well as one dig.
“She started slow on Friday, but lit up on Saturday,” Meredith explained. “She finished Saturday with 47 kills and 17 blocks.”
The third game for Colfax on Friday was against Clayton. The Vikings swept the Bears in two straight with scores of 25-13 and 25-6.
Rachel Scharlau made her presence known as she put up six kills, three aces, and three digs against the Bears.
The last game on Friday saw Colfax take on Barron and win in two sets with scores of 25-23 and 25-15.
Jozie Buchanan was a consistant player throughout Friday’s matches as she had 20 assists against Barron and 126 overall during the two-day sprawl.
Colfax started Saturday out with wins over Steven’s Point and St. Croix Central followed by the loss to Wausau West.
Kameri Meredith was once again a driving force for Colfax with 11 kills and digs against Steven’s Point. The Vikings took the match in two with scores of 25-21 and 27-25.
It took three sets for Colfax to defeat the Panthers of St. Croix Central with scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 17-15.
Samantha Pretasky had seven kills, Kameri Meredith had 11 digs and Jozie Buchanan had 18 assists.
The final game of the day for Colfax was against the Wausau West Warriors, and the Warriors would need three sets to do it in with scores of 25-22, 17-25 and 15-9.
Pretasky shined once again for Colfax with 11 kills, and three digs, Meredith had 14 digs against the Warriors.
“Addy Olson had 52 digs and served extremely well Friday to get us into the Silver division,” coach Meredith stated.
The home quadrangular scheduled for last Tueaday, August 27 in Colfax was canceled due to a random act of Mother Nature at 4:10 p.m. The rain and lightning that afternoon caused a power outage and the coaches held a meeting and rescheduled to this Thursday, September 5 at Colfax.
