ELK MOUND — The Elk Mound Village Board has approved a conditional use application for a multi-purpose shop on state Highway 12/Menomonie Street.
The village board approved the application for a conditional use at the August 7 meeting to allow Elk Mound resident Patrick Lien to construct a 40-foot by 78-foot multi-purpose shop at E101 Menomonie Street to be used for welding, fabrication, auto repair and sales.
The Elk Mound Village Board approved rezoning the property from Residential-1 to Business-1 at the June 5 meeting.
The shop will be west of the current residence, Lien told the village board at the August 7 meeting.
Fences will be constructed to keep the shop out of sight. When people drive into Elk Mound, they will see a building and a fence, he said.
Although the original plan had been to eliminate three trees on the property, Lien said his wife was opposed to destroying any trees.
To preserve the trees, Lien said he is shifting the building to the west.
The shop’s primary purpose will be welding and fabrication, and Lien noted he is already making kayak and canoe trailers out of his garage and that he expects the business will really “take off” after the shop is operational.
The Elk Mound Village Board unanimously approved the conditional use application for a 40-foot by 78-foot multi-purpose building for welding, fabrication, auto repair and sales at E101 Menomonie Street with the condition that it is intended for private use by the owner and not for public occupancy.
Voting “yes” on the motion were Steven Abraham, village president, and village trustees Rebecca Livingston, Greg Kipp, Terry Stamm, Deborah Creaser-Kipp, Montana Grotthus and Paula Turner.
