News for the week of June 16th:
News flash for this week, in case you didn’t know – cool fall like weather has temporarily interrupted our summer! Let’s hope the warmer weather returns soon. Here at the Big Yellow House, activities continue as normal except for those planned for outside have now been moved indoors where it’s warmer.
Monday morning we readied the Square for our monthly Green Leaf Café. With tablecloths and menus in place the room looked just like a small town pub. As the residents gathered, waitresses Tina, Brenda and Barb took orders and served up drinks. Everyone enjoyed visiting while Chef Andy along with his assistant Allie prepared their food, fresh off the grill and hot out of the deep fryer. For dessert everyone enjoyed fresh strawberry shortcake. The afternoon found many of the ladies in the Square getting primped and pampered. It was time for a trim and a fresh coat of paint on our nails. Many choose a bright summery color for their nails this time.
Tuesday morning our weekly volleyball teams met in the East Dining Room. The competition was once again fierce, and we declared the game a tie. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats.
Pastor Conklin led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. We enjoyed his inspiring message, and also singing along to our favorite hymns. Lenore Berg delighted our residents after lunch with a hour of both accordion and piano music. Everyone enjoyed listening while being treated to coffee and a homemade cookie.
Thursday dawned with a spring like nip in the air, but it didn’t stop many from heading to the annual Colfax Fair. We put both the vans to work transporting residents to and from the fair. Many enjoyed eating at the Holden Food Stand, visiting with old friends, watching the animals being judged, or enjoying the many displays and walking thru the animal barns. We kept the van busy from early in the morning to late afternoon.
Friday morning we gathered in the Square for Gospel Sing a Long. This activity has been a weekly tradition for many years here at Colfax Health and Rehab, and the residents enjoyed listening to the talents of Jane on piano and Bruce on the guitar. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
