News for the week of June 9th to June 15th:
Sunday afternoon we were entertained with music by the Otterson Family. We always look forward to their visits and listening to their beautiful music. Before the performance Loretta treated everyone to delicious ice cream bars.
Tommy the Turtle was the star of the show on Monday morning. Gather up bean bags and some residents and it makes for an hour of bean bag tossing fun. The object of the game is to throw the bags in the big point’s areas of Tommy’s shell. After lunch our Catholics gathered to share the rosary. Loretta leads this group and we appreciate her taking the time to do so. Later that afternoon we had a special visitor to the Big Yellow House. Finnegan the miniature horse (“Fin” for short, and short he is,) trotted down the halls and out in the courtyard to visit the residents. We always look forward to his visits. Now that the warm weather is here, we will see him more often.
Cribbage was the name of the game on Tuesday morning with Al and Gus leading the group. The residents always look forward to this weekly gathering. Following lunch the Catholics gathered for prayers and devotions. Patty leads this group and the residents appreciate her taking the time to lead us. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square for an hour of Prize Bingo. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteers Michelle, Patty and Eileen always make sure this fun hour runs smoothly. Just before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick come and spend some time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Pastor Eide of Shepard of the Hill Lutheran church in Elk Mound led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate her taking the time to come and share with us. After church it was time to decorate for our Family Summer Fun and Food Gala. The Square filled up fast as the families gathered to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. The Dietary staff served a delicious meal of grilled burgers, pasta salad, baked beans and fresh fruit. When the meal was finished, we enjoyed an afternoon of music by Rich Schroeder. Everyone had a great time.
Noodle meet Ball started out our Thursday morning as residents gathered for an hour of fun using beach balls and Styrofoam noodles. As the residents hit the ball with the noodles, it was a challenge to see which team could keep the ball on the opponent’s side. In the end, everyone came away a winner and we all had fun. The afternoon plans were to spend time in the courtyard, but with the cool, rainy weather we decided to stay indoors. Cocktail hour turned into Cocktails and music with residents invited to the Square to enjoy their favorite adult beverage. Brenda mixed up a delicious fruity drink with a little “punch” and it was delicious! We enjoyed the drinks and listened to the music of JC Colby. After bounce ball, residents spent some time in an hour of prayer and devotions led by Jordan Herrick. It is great that he takes time from his busy schedule to share with us.
Friday morning we gathered for Gospel Sing a Long. This activity has been a weekly tradition for many years here at Colfax Health and Rehab, and the residents enjoyed listening to the talents of Kathy on piano and Bruce on the guitar. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
