CADOTT — The Colfax golf team’s 2019 season came to a close last Tuesday when they finished last in the 9-team WIAA Division 3 Cadott regional tournament.
The Vikings’ golfers accumulated 503 strokes in the 18-hole regional meet held May 21 at Whispering Pines Golf Course near Cadott to finish in ninth place.
“We had a great time and the course did a nice job preparing given all the rain that we’ve gotten recently.,” said Colfax head coach Michael Dombrowski.
“Our team had its ups and downs which has been the norm all year,” continued Dombrowski. “We had numerous birdie and par opportunities but those mostly ended up as bogeys or worse. Too many miss hits caused our scores to balloon.”
Colfax’s best finishes went to junior Tristan Lenz and sophomore Hunter Rebak who finished 37th and 38th respectively. Lenz shot a 115 with Rebak a stroke back at 116.
Freshman Rylee Satter placed 42nd after shooting a 127. Junior Boden Bergeson tallied a 145 and senior Tanner Nierenhausen did not score after receiving a disqualification (no reason was given).
“The kids played well at times,” said Dombrowski. “We are so young (our top three are underclassmen) so it’s exciting to see what the future holds. They need to put in the time on the course this summer and add to the experience they gained this year.”
Dunn-St. Croix champion Durand won the regional title with a score of 322. Eleva-Strum took second with 346 followed by host Cadott with a 348 and Spring Valley at 364 to complete the sectional qualifying teams.
Fall Creek shot a 372, Thorp had a 384, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser finished with a 424, Mondovi tallied a 443 and the Vikings signed out with a 503.
Eleva-Strum’s Isaac Larrabee won medalist honors with a 75. Dawson Kurth of Durand was second after shooting a 76.
