News for the week of April 28th to May 4th:
Monday morning found residents gathered for an hour of short stories. Barb leads this group and always has an interesting story to tell us. Today she shared poems and stories about spring time. We reminisced about what we enjoyed about the long cold winters coming to an end and spring being just around the corner. Many talked about the large gardens that they had and how they enjoyed planning, preparing and planting. And of course reaping the benefits of their beauty and bounty.
Monday afternoon found residents gathering for our monthly Resident Council. We reviewed next month’s activities and menu and discussed future activities and meals that residents might like. Everyone is excited to get back into the grilling season. We can’t wait to get the flip flop grills out of the garage! Later we gathered to help Audrey Larson celebrate her retirement. Audrey has been with us as a Dietary Aide for five and a half years and we wish her well in her retirement.
Noodles meet Ball started out our Tuesday morning as residents gathered for an hour of fun using beach balls and foam noodles. As the residents hit the ball with the noodles, it was a challenge to see which team could keep the ball on the opponent’s side. In the end, everyone came away a winner and we all had fun and even got in a little exercise in the process. Cribbage was the name of the game on Ridge Crest with Al and Gus leading the group. The residents always look forward to this weekly gathering. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square for an hour of Prize Bingo. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteers Michelle and Eileen always make sure this fun hour runs smoothly. Just before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick come and spend some time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Pastor Wik led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. We enjoyed his inspiring message, and also singing along to our favorite hymns. Chuck Kirkwood and Friends entertained us in the afternoon. We always look forward to their wonderful toe tapping music. Later that afternoon our quilters gathered in the Square to work on the many projects that they are working on. Angie leads this busy group and it is always exciting to watch the progress that they are making.
Thursday morning our weekly volleyball teams met in the East Dining Room. The competition was once again fierce, and we declared the game a tie. In the afternoon we donned our aprons and stirred up a batch of blueberry muffins. They sure tasted great warm from the oven and even better with a fresh cup of coffee. After bounce ball, residents spent time in an hour of prayer and devotions led by Jordan Herrick.
Friday morning we gathered for Gospel Sing a Long. This activity has been a weekly tradition for many years here at Colfax Health and Rehab, and the residents enjoyed listening to the talents of Kathy on piano and Bruce on the guitar. Later, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
Highlights of next week’s activities are Green Leaf Café and music by one of our favorite bands, Blue Sky.
If you are interested in seeing what goes on at the Big Yellow House you can go to our web site, Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center or like us on Facebook where pictures happenings, the activity schedule and menu for the week are posted.
Until Next Week,
