With four games last week, the Colfax ladies softball team went 3-1 with the only loss against Boyceville during Thursday’s double header.
The first game of the week for the Vikings saw them taking a big win over the Spring Valley Cardinals by a 19-9 score. Jozie Buchanan started for Colfax and struck out six batters while giving up seven earned runs.
Boyceville traveled to Colfax for a double header last Thursday, April 25. The first game went to the Vikings while the Bulldogs captured the win in the night cap. Jozie Buchanan and Anna Geissler were the two pitchers for Colfax and were able to get seven strikeouts between the pair while giving up only 13 hits in the two five-inning games.
Colfax traveled to Durand on Friday, April 26 to take on the Panthers in the longest game of the week which ended in a 11-6 win in seven innings. Stolen bases and seven runs in the seventh inning helped the Vikings nab the win.
The Vikings, 3-3 in conference and overall play, started the week out in Elk Mound this past Monday, April 29, for a double header. On Thursday, May 2, Colfax hosts the Elmwood/Plum City Wolves, then travels to Glenwood City on Friday, May 3 for another double header before returning to Colfax next Monday, May 6 to tussle with Mondovi.
After two losses, the Colfax ladies finally put together a strong offense and tough defense last Tuesday evening, April 23, against the Spring Valley Cardinals and took the victory in five innings with a 19-9 score.
It was all Jozie Buchanan in the pitching circle for Colfax as she gave up nine runs with only seven of them earned, but once she settled in Buchanan struck out six Cardinal batters. Buchanan also went one-of-three at the plate and scored two runs and was credited with two RBIs.
“Jozie pitched well and we played better defense behind her,” said head coach John Dickinsen. “Although we still had a couple of plays that needed to be made.”
The Vikings took an early lead in the first inning after Cardinal pitcher Kristine Miller walked the first four batters and hit three with a pitch.
Bailey Bradford was the first of the Vikings to gain a walk against Miller. Bradford was walked twice in Tuesday’s game and scored a run both times.
Emmie Edwards and Anna Geissler had two big doubles that scored runs in the fifth inning, Edwards had a hit and two runs along with three RBIs while Geissler had two runs, one hit, three RBIs and a walk.
Tori Hill brought in teammate Kaitlin Field for the winning run in the fifth inning. Hill had two runs, a hit and two RBIs and Field had four runs, one hit and one RBI.
“It was good to get in the win column,” Dickinsen explained. “We’re looking forward to continued improvements and getting back on the field.”

In the first game of a double header, the Colfax Vikings faced off against the Boyceville Bulldogs and managed to take an early lead to earn a 11-7 victory in the first five inning contest.
Jozie Buchanan was in the circle for Colfax and threw only 84 pitches in five innings, Buchanan did throw 57 strikes against Boyceville and gave up only two earned runs. Buchanan also had three runs in her two times up to bat and was walked once.
“Overall I thought we got a good win in the first game, we had way too many errors but were able to battle through with Jozie’s solid pitching effort,” said coach Dickinsen.
The Vikings earned six stolen bases against the Bulldogs from runners Bailey Bradford, Emmie Edwards, Kaitlin Field. Anna Geissler and Taylor Irwin.
Taylor Irwin and Bailey Bradford each had two runs for the Vikings as well as one RBI, Bradford was walked twice and Irwin was one-of-three with a walk.
“We were able to take advantage of nine walks and timely hits to get 11 runs and win the first game of the double header,” Dickinsen explained.

In the second game of the double header, the Vikings found themselves with an early 3-0 lead going in to the bottom of the second but Boyceville battled back and took the victory over the Vikings by a score of 8-6.
“Anna Geissler started and had a couple of tough breaks,” said coach Dickinsen. “She pitched really well, but ended up with the loss.”
Geissler went three innings for the Vikings and gave up five earned runs and five hits while striking out three Bulldog batters, she also had one run for Colfax and was one-of-two at the plate.
Bailey Bradford was the only Viking to score two runs in the second game and was able to go two-of-three and earned one RBI.
The Vikings earned three stolen bases against the Bulldogs from runners Anna Geissler, Jenna Goodell and Tori Hill. Goodell was two-of-two at the plate with two RBIs, Geissler had one run and a hit and Hill was walked once.
“Tori Hill had a great running catch in the outfield that saved a run or more in the first inning,” said Dickinsen. “We played much better defensively, having only one error.
Marissa Harmon had a successful sacrifice hit that was able to bring in Emmie Edwards, Harmon had a hit and an RBI while Edwards was one-of-two with a run.

With Jozie Buchanan back in the circle for the Vikings, they managed to take a win over Durand 11-6 to make Colfax 3-3 in the Dunn-St. Croix.
Buchanan pitched all seven innings for the Vikings and had 84 strikes in 113 pitches, she had seven strikeouts against the Panthers and gave up only one earned run. Buchanan went zero-of-three at the plate but was walked twice and had two runs and an RBI.
Colfax was able to gain three stolen bases from teammates Bailey Bradford, Jenna Goodell and Marissa Harmon. Bradford had two runs and an RBI, Goodell was one-of-four at the plate and had an RBI and Harmon had two runs and a walk.
