News for the week of April 21st to April 27th:
Easter Sunday was a busy one here at the Big Yellow House. With the beautiful spring weather, many residents went out to family celebrations. Others stayed in and enjoyed a delicious Easter dinner with the many family and friends that came to visit.
Monday found residents gathering to make some spring decorations to adorn the rooms and halls. Some cut out the pots, while others cut the brightly colored tulips. Then we glued them all together and placed them around the facility. The afternoon found residents gathered for an hour of Rob Your Neighbor. This fast paced dice game includes winning some money, but at the end, the chance to lose it all. To start, resident shake the dice in hopes of getting a six to win some quick change. But the last round the dice is shook to see how much you can “Rob from your Neighbor!” The moral of the game, just when you think you’re rich, with the help of your neighbor, you’re not! Everyone had a great time and most went home with a little more jingle in their pocket.
“Sit er size” started out our Tuesday morning with residents gathered in front of the TV to follow along to an exercise video that not only loosens up muscles, burns some calories, but is fun to do. All while sitting on the comfort of your own chairs. Cribbage was the name of the game on Ridge Crest as Al, Toby, Vern and Gus enjoyed an hour of homemade cookies, hot coffee and fast flying cards! Following lunch the Catholics gathered for prayers and devotions. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square for an hour of Prize Bingo. After bingo, the Catholics gathered for our weekly rosary group led by Loretta. Just before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick spend some time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Pastor Eide of Shepard of the Hill Lutheran church in Elk Mound led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate her taking the time to come and share with us. Maple Ridge was the afternoon entertainment. Many gathered in the Square to listen to this groups’ unique down home sound. The five piece band included a bass player, two fiddle players, a guitar player and even a ukulele. Add their beautiful voices and it was hard to keep your toes from tapping. We can’t wait for them to return.
Thursday morning our weekly volleyball teams met in the East Dining Room. The residents love to play our version of this game and can become very competitive. But usually at the end, we declare everyone a winner as we all get some exercise while having a great time. Residents gathered in the afternoon to help out the kitchen by frosting a few dozen sugar cookies. Little did the kitchen know when we were done frosting, we had to taste them to make sure they passed inspection. With a fresh cup of coffee, we gave them an A plus!
Friday morning we gathered for Gospel Sing a Long. This activity has been a weekly tradition for many years here at Colfax Health and Rehab, and the residents enjoyed listening to the talents of Kathy on piano and Bruce on the guitar. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is a great way to end the week.
