The meatball supper at St. Katherine’s Church this evening (Wednesday, April 24) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. has been cancelled due to water damage in the basement.
Heavy rain received on Wednesday, April 17, flooded the basement at St. Katherine’s, and it is not possible to have the meatball dinner, said Bonnie Knutson, a member at St. Katherine’s.
The basement will have to dry out, and the carpeting will have to be replaced. Since it is impossible to know how long it will take the water to dry up, another date has not yet been selected for the meatball dinner, she said.
The Colfax Messenger has received varying reports on the amount of rain — anywhere from one inch to four inches — that fell from thunderstorms moving through the area the afternoon of April 17.
Knutson said she suspected the amount of rain received around St. Katherine’s was more rather than less since the church basement does not typically take on water after it rains.
