Wisc. Dells — April 8th to the 10th, five FCCLA members traveled to the Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells for the 2019 FCCLA State Leadership Conference. The conference gave students the opportunity to present their STAR  (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events.

This year’s state attendees included Alexis Albrecht, Makayla Sina, Leah Magsam, Delaney Quinn, and Hanna Strehlo. Aside from the competitive events, members also listened to a motivational speech from keynote speaker Kat Perkins, who appeared on season 6 of the Voice. They also were able to attend many breakout sessions that related to leadership development and personal growth, plus a live concert with “The Voice” runner up, Chris Kroeze.

Leah Magsam and Alexis Albrecht attended as Regional Representatives from our school district. Makayla Sina and Alexis Albrecht represented our chapter as this years voting delegates.

Competitive events were represented by: Alexis who earned a  silver medal in Entrepreneurship; Leah earned a gold medal in Leadership; while Hanna and Delaney earned gold medals as a team in Illustrated Talk.

All participants scored high enough to be national qualifiers and will be travelling to Anaheim, California at the end of June to present their projects again at the national venue.

Makayla Sina is one of 70 students from across the country to receive the Japan-America Friendship Scholarship through the organization Youth for Understanding USA.  This organization sponsors intercultural exchange programs and has awarded Sina a partial scholarship to travel to Japan this summer from June 21 through August 5.

All FCCLA members had a great time and are looking forward to their travels over the summer.

If you are interested or would like to supporting these students financially, donations may be made to the Glenwood City FCCLA and dropped off at the High School Office.
