News for the week of April 14th to April 20th:
Everyone was glad to finally see the sun and warmer weather to start the week. After last week’s storm and winter like temperatures we are all ready for a change! Keeping with the spirit of Holy Week, our Monday morning reading group listened as Barb read the story of Easter. Monday afternoon found another visit from Mrs. Right and Mr. Left. We played this game during the Christmas holidays and had so much fun we decided they should visit again. This time the Easter Bunny supplied Mrs. Right with lots of delicious chocolates for prizes. After an hour of passing the presents, many went away with some Easter candy to share with their family and friends.
Tuesdays’ kickball group met in the East Dining Room for an hour of ball fun. This time they only popped one ball in all the excitement of the competition. Cribbage was the name of the game on Ridge Crest as Al, Toby, Elaine, Vern and Gus enjoyed an hour of homemade cookies, hot coffee and fast flying cards! Following lunch the Catholics gathered for prayers and devotions. Patty leads this group and the residents appreciate her taking the time to lead us. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square for an hour of Prize Bingo. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteers Michelle, Patty and Eileen always make sure this fun hour runs smoothly. Just before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick come and spend some time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Wednesday was another very busy day at the Big Yellow House! We began the day with Pastor Eide of Shepard of the Hill Lutheran church in Elk Mound leading us in our Weekly church service. We appreciate her taking the time to come and share with us. The afternoon found many in the East Dining Room where we gathered to decorate eggs for the Easter holiday. We started with five dozen hard boiled eggs, baggies of rice and some food coloring and vinegar. How does that work you ask? Well you mix the food coloring and vinegar with the rice in a bag, drop in an egg and shake gently. The end results, beautifully colored Easter eggs! They will adorn our Easter breakfast trays.
Thursday morning, residents gathered in the East Dining Room for our weekly volleyball tournament. This activity brings out our competitive side, and all agree it’s a fun way to get some exercise. Keeping with the Easter theme our Granny Bakers gathered in the afternoon to make bird nest cookies. We started with the cookie which was made from butterscotch chips and Chinese noodles. Then we decorated the top with colorful frostings and topped them with tiny chocolate Easter eggs. Not only were they pretty to look at, they tasted good too!
Friday morning found many in the Square for Gospel Sing a Long. Kathy and Bruce lead us in this hour of music and prayer. We love picking out our favorite hymns to sing. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
Saturday brought many through the doors for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Petting Zoo. The beautiful spring weather allowed the festivities to be both indoors and in the courtyard. The residents enjoyed watching all the activity. Some of the residents even enjoyed playing some of the games. Once again, the 22ers 4H did a great job putting on this fun event, as the Big Yellow House was filled with laughter and smiling faces.
Until Next Week,
Barb Stobb, Activity Director
