Colfax 22ers 4-H Club has busy March

The Colfax 22ers 4-H Club has been busy this last month!

At our March 17th meeting we had Dr. Buckley a local veterinarian from the Colfax Animal Hospital speak to us about animal care and his profession. We learned lots of neat things such as how we have to go to school for a lot of years before becoming a vet!  We learned that Dr. Buckley’s favorite animal to care for is dairy cattle, although he likes working on dogs and cats because its 72 degrees inside. The most exotic animal he has worked on is an elephant and a boa constrictor. He states he is also known as the local pot belly pig guru! Getting bit and kicked is a hazard on the job. Sometimes it happens up to seven times a year! We also learned that Dr. Buckley grew up being in 4-H too! He took rabbits to the fair and he thinks that 4-H has definitely helped him with public speaking! We are very thankful he took the time to come speak to us!

Our dress up theme for March was “wear green” being our meeting was on St. Patrick’s Day! Our fun activity for the month was an education day on the 30th where we got to learn how to collect and make maple syrup. Afterward we got to eat pancakes with maple syrup-yummy! Following that outdoor adventure we continued our education day learning how to care for and show a rabbit for the fair, make bracelets and learned how to make no-bake energy balls. It was a lot of fun! A big thank you to the Harder and Anderson/Tuschl family for hosting!

Our club will also once again be hosting the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday April 20, 2019 from 10-11:30 at the Colfax Health and Rehab. There will be prize drawings, games, face painting and some animals to pet! Come join us for the fun!

Our next meeting will be held on Sunday April 14, 2019 at 6:00 P.M. at the Grapevine Senior Center. Come and join the fun and see what 4-H is all about! New members are welcome anytime!  Questions about joining 4-H call Melissa Larson at 715-962-9175.

Respectfully Submitted,
