News for the week of March 17th – 23rd
We began the weekend with bingo with the Colfax Comets 4 H group. We always look forward to an extra hour of our favorite game and appreciate the families spending time with us. St. Patrick’s Day found the residents being treated to an Irish Stew for lunch time and a rainbow ice cream treat in the afternoon.
“Sit er size” started out our Monday morning with residents gathered in front of the TV to follow along to an exercise video that not only loosens up the muscles, burns some calories, but is also fun to do. All while sitting on the comfort of our own chairs. The afternoon found residents playing a new game called Rob Your Neighbor. This fast paced dice game includes winning some money and having some fun. But at the end of the game, there is the chance to lose all your winnings to your neighbor. To begin, resident shake the dice in hopes of shaking a six which is worth a dime. But during the last round the dice is shook to see how much money you can “Rob from your Neighbor!” The moral of the game, just when you think your getting rich, it disappears right before your eyes! Everyone had a great time and most went home with a little more jingle in their pocket. Later that afternoon our quilters gathered in the Square to work on quilted hand warmers and soup bowl hot pads. Angie leads this busy group and it is always fun to watch the progress that they are making.
Tuesday morning began with stories and devotions in the East Dining room. Later Cribbage was the name of the game with Al, Toby and Gus leading the group. The residents always look forward to this weekly gathering. Following lunch the Catholics gathered for prayers and devotions. Patty leads this group and the residents appreciate her taking the time to lead us. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square for an hour of Prize Bingo. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteers Michelle, Patty and Eileen always make sure this fun hour runs smoothly. Just before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick spend time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Pastor Schroetter led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to share with us. We enjoyed his inspiring message, and singing our favorite hymns. Residents gathered in the Square in the afternoon for a Sing a Long. We always look forward Kathy Irwin’s visits as she leads us in an hour of singing our favorite tunes. Even if we can’t sing very good, her beautiful piano playing drowns out all the bad notes we hit.
Thursday morning, residents gathered in the East Dining Room for our weekly volleyball tournament. This activity brings out our competitive side, and it’s a fun way to get some exercise. In the afternoon we donned our aprons and stirred up a batch of homemade muffins. When they were done we enjoyed them with a fresh cup of coffee.
Friday morning we gathered in the Square for Gospel Sing a Long. This activity has been a weekly tradition for many years here at Colfax Health and Rehab, and the residents enjoyed listening to the talents of Kathy on piano and Bruce on the guitar. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
