MENOMONIE — Another week wrapped up for the Bulldogs’ track and field teams with their most recent meets at UW-Stout on Tuesday, March 19, and Saturday, March 23.
On Tuesday, March 19, the Bulldogs competed in their second meet of the season at the Blue Devil Invite at UW-Stout and struggled as neither the boys’ nor girls’ team managed to finish among the top 20 teams.
Later in the week, Boyceville returned to Menomonie to take part in the Northern Badger Classic on Saturday, March 23 with the boys finishing in 27th place with four points, but the girls once again were unable to scorer any points.
Nevertheless, head Coach Corey Day was pleased with his athletes performances.
“A lot of our athletes are showing improvement and that is what we expect,” noted Day. “These early meets are a good gauge but do not carry a lot of weight by the end of the season. Continued improvement and staying healthy will be the true test over the next ten weeks.”
The Bulldogs will get in some practice time before their next meet on Thursday, April 4, at Saint Croix Central in what will hopefully be the first of many outdoor meets.
Blue Devil Invite
It was a tough evening for the Bulldogs as they made their way to Menomonie last Tuesday evening, March 19, wondering how to put together enough wins to get into the top teams.
The Bulldogs girls’ 4x400M relay team finished in thirteenth place, which was the highest finish in any of the girls’ events at the Blue Devil Invite.
Naomi Hillman finished in 19th place in the 200M dash for Boyceville with a time of :30.99, followed by Chesney Leslie who finished in 65th place with a time of :34.39. Hillman also competed in the long jump finishing with a distance of 13’3.75” in 18th place and Leslie finished the 55M dash in 58th place with a time of :8.97 which was just over a second slower than first-place finisher Abby Syverson with a time of :7.84.
The Bulldog men struggled to crack the top ten with the highest place going to Nathan Stuart with his 14th place finish in the pole vault at a height of 8’0”.
The 200M dash saw the most athletes crossing the line with Preston Coombs finishing in 45th place with a time of :27.04, Brendan Hazelton in 76th place with a time of :30.86 and Dane Wedland in 77th place with a time of :31.45.
