News for the week of March 10th – 16th
You may have noticed that there has been no news from the Big Yellow House the last few weeks, that was due to a flu bug that made its’ way throughout the building. During this time, activities were kept to a minimum. We are now happy to announce, the BUG HAS LEFT THE BUILDING and activities are back in full swing!!!
We began the week with our popular Green Leaf Café. This time it was delivery service for all. After placing their orders, the waitresses passed them on to Chef Andy and his assistant Allie. When the food was ready, Loretta, Barb and Tammy delivered the food piping hot to the residents. Along with our usual offerings, this week’s special was a delicious Shrimp Basket.
Tuesday morning activities included a turtle named Tommy and some bean bags. Add some residents and it makes for an hour of bean bag tossing fun. The object of the game is to stick as many bean bags in the big point’s areas of Tommy’s shell. Cribbage was the name of the game on Ridge Crest as Al, Toby, Vern, Tom and Gus enjoyed an hour of homemade cookies, hot coffee and fast flying cards! The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. With Michelle and Patty’s help, the afternoon always goes smoothly. Just before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick spend time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Vicor Chuck Shingledecker led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time from his busy schedule to come and share with us. We enjoyed his inspiring message, and also singing along to our favorite hymns. Jane and Zac Otterson delighted our residents at lunch with a hour of beautiful dinner music. With Jane on the piano and Zac accompanying her, they quickly drew the residents to the Square to listen while they ate. JC Colby entertained us in the afternoon. He always draws a crowd as his beautiful voice and talented guitar playing echoes our favorite country western songs throughout the halls.
Thursday morning residents gathered for our weekly volleyball tournament. Meanwhile others met to participate in catholic worship service. Father Joe and Jerry from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elk Mound took time from their busy schedules to come and share mass with our residents and it is much appreciated. The Granny Bakers gathered in the afternoon under the direction of Baker Loretta to make a batch of blueberry muffins. The warm muffins sure tasted good alongside a fresh cup of coffee. Later that evening, after bounce ball, residents spent some time in an hour of prayer and devotions led by Jordan Herrick.
Friday morning in the Square we held Gospel Sing a Long. We love picking out our favorite hymns to sing. Bruce and Kathy led us in this hour of music and prayer. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. Everyone went away with a little more jingle in their pockets.
Saturday afternoon found many back in the Square for another hour of Bingo. This time it was hosted by the Colfax Comets 4-H club. Everyone enjoyed visiting with the kids while taking home some of their favorite treats that were the prizes.
