MENOMONIE — The Boyceville Bulldogs competed in their first track and field meet of the season last Friday, March 15, as the boys’ and girls’ squads both finished third in the Dunn County Indoor meet held at the Menomonie High School Fieldhouse.
For the boys, Boyceville scored just five points in the meet which was won by host Menomonie with 98 points followed by Ellsworth in second with 41 points. The Lady Bulldogs copped third with 12 points as Menomonie once again topped the 4-school field with 92 points as Ellsworth took second with 36 points and Chippewa Falls McDonell Central was fourth with five points.
Megan Hintzman won the pole vault with a top vault of 8’ 6”, which is the same height she jumped at last year’s sectional.
“She (Hintzman) has worked hard, so it was nice to see her start where she left off last year,” said Boyceville head coach Corey Day.
The ladies 4×400 relay team, comprised of Chrissa Kersten, Naomi Hillman, Megan Hintzman and Jocelyn Wilson, placed second ahead of Ellsworth by 1.2 seconds. The Lady Bulldogs finished with a time of 5:06.97.
Justin Lombardo and Dane Wedland finished in second and third place respectively in the 400 meter dash with times of 1:04.99 and 1:05.74.
The boys 4×400 meter relay team did not score points but finished in fifth place with a time of 4:37.93 and is made up of Nathan Stuart, Samuel Chich, Preston Coombs and Brian Johnson.
“The boys are young,” Day explained. “It was a good experience to see that competition early in the season.”
Senior Damien Waller and sophomore Nathaniel Chich had personal bests at the March 15 event. Waller finished with a 27’10” shot put and Chich finished in fifth place with a 7’ 0” pole vault.
The Bulldogs will compete in a pair of indoor meets at UW-Stout this week. They participated in the Blue Devil Invite yesterday (Tuesday, March 19) and will be back at Stout for the Northern Badger Invite on Saturday, March 23.
